About the Author of hearttalk

Christopher G. Moore

“Learning a new language is becoming a child again.”
--Christopher G. Moore

The author of hearttalk, Christopher G. Moore, is an award-winning writer. He has written 18 novels, one of which Zero Hour in Phnom Penh won the German Critics Award for Crime Fiction in 2004. hearttalk is his only non-fiction. Christopher first visited Thailand in 1983 and moved to Thailand in 1989 and has become a resident of Bangkok ever since. Learn more about him.

As a novelist, Christopher brings a novelistic and creative perspective to learning Thai. He said about writing the third edition of hearttalk:

“Writing a book such as hearttalk is like picking up lovely shells from the beach. You fill the buckets and walk back to your house satisfied not one shell had been missed. The next morning the tide brings more shells onto the beach. My quest for jai phrases has been such a journey.”

“I have a feeling, one of dread, that while I have found many of the central jai phrases, there will always be omissions. But for the moment, I have swept the beach as clean as I can and offer up these beautiful shells of a beautiful language.”
